Fold, Split & Stitch: An
Articulated Artist Book
with Claire Brach
Suitable for all skill levels
2-days, 9.30am - 4pm
Saturday 18 April - Sunday 19 April, 2020
$260 + $15 materials fee
In this workshop participants will concentrate on the creation of a single book with multiple components, including a flexible split-and-stitched cover with a focal point inclusion. We will explore both concertina and folded signatures, combining them with stitch. We will also have some fun playing with painterly techniques to create unique patterns to enhance our book covers and/or collage if that is your preference.
Students are encouraged to bring paper-based memorabilia (maps, timetables, menus, speciality papers, mementos of trips/holidays, prints, drawings, paintings, etc.) to add both exterior and interior content and/or pages to their books. Pages don’t just have to be blank! Consider creating themed books incorporating materials important to yourself.
This is an experimental workshop where the construction of the book will be taught in a step-by-step process and participants will have the opportunity to personalize and adapt their pieces through a range of visual, textural and design effects. It is suitable for those new to creative book making or those with some experience wishing to widen their skills and have a bit of fun!
