Wool felt lends itself well to be used on lampshades and in many other types of light fitting.
Wool (and felt) is naturally fire resistant and when layered with different types of resists and
embellishments can create light fittings that have two distinct personalities. One daylight (unlit)
appearance and another ‘undiscovered’ personality when illuminated.
In this workshop participants will have the option to create either a 20cm diameter barrel
lampshade using felt as the decorative outer material OR three small barrel lanterns.
We will explore different embellishments, resists and inclusions within the felt that will appear when the lamp is lit - a type of shadow lamp.
Participants will also have the option to make a light-vase using a glass cylinder that can be used
as a candle holder or contain string LED lights for added luminous decoration.
We will also explore using ‘book’ resists. This will enable participants to create a sculpture 3D
vessel that can be use as a stand-alone or hanging light fitting. This includes using stiffening
products.
Although this workshop includes some advanced techniques, it is still suitable for anyone with
some experience in felting.
